Castle Plars, dating back to the fourteenth century, is located in Plars di Mezzo, a few km from Merano, surrounded by expanses of woods, vineyards and orchards. To the elegant rooms and suites reserved for guests is added the well-stocked cellar of the castle, where the fine wines of their own production continue a tradition linked to the Theiner family for three generations.
Castello Plars History
In the enchanting panorama of Plars, in the immediate vicinity of the spa town of Merano, stands Castle Plars, a structure dating back to the fourteenth century. At that time the complex was not yet the current appearance, but it was a farm, albeit among the largest and most beautiful in the country of Lagundo.
In 1880 a certain Wilhelm D'Avignon from Leipzig bought the structure and enlarged it and renovated it, making it a castle, surrounded by a large park. Purchased in 1911 by the Theiner family, it underwent a careful restoration and the entire estate is devoted to viticulture, taking advantage of the mild climate of the valley and the fertile lands that extend on the uphill slopes of Lagundo and the Merano valley. Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot bianco, Schiava and Lagrein here are exalted and once passed by the expert hands of the Theiner family donate wines of the highest quality. The ancient walls of the Castello di Plars cellars offer the ideal atmosphere to indulge in the pleasure of tasting.
