Hotel Bosone History
Successfully inserted among the indispensable destinations of the Grand Tour between travelers of the late nineteenth century, admirers of art and of the Italian stoni and celebrated as an authentic wonder by Gabriele D'Annunzio and Herman Hesse, Gubbio boasts one of the most beautiful and best historical centers preserved in the country, embellished by a succession of ancient facades and monuments of considerable value.
Among these, a few steps from Piazza della Signoria and Palazzo dei Consoli, stands Palazzo Raffaelli, a seventeenth-century building once home to the aristocratic eugubina family of the Bosone family, whose roots date back to centuries ago: it is said that Bosone boasted among his acquaintances personalities such as Dante Alighieri, also housed in the palace, and Francesco Petrarca who mentioned them in his famous sonnet "Spirit gentil ...".
Today, the grand stone staircase of Palazzo Raffaelli introduces the bedrooms and the two Renaissance apartments of the Bosone Palace Hotel. The Mencarelli family, for years present in Gubbio with other activities in the field of tourist reception, manages it personally, creating, with passion and professionalism, a climate of great hospitality that combines modern comforts and taste of the ancient. The common rooms, such as the beautiful breakfast room, are enriched with velvets, gilded frames and painted decorations on the ceilings. Frescoes are also present in some of the bedrooms, with beautiful vaults with bright colors and antique or style furnishings at the house. The catering service uses two rooms: the Bosone Garden, located in the same building, and the Taverna del Lupo, not far from the palace, which both offer a rich repertoire of Umbrian specialties with the undisputed protagonist of the truffle.
