The castle of Melans is a residence in the municipality of Absam in the district of Innsbruck-Land in Tyrol. The building, which dates back to the Middle Ages, is a historic building and currently home to an agricultural cooperative.
Schloss Melans History
The manor is mentioned around 1300 as a fief of the bishopric of Augusta, in 1315 here Chunrad the Vegler and his brother Eberlein, sons of the salt marshes Eberhardt Vegler, called as owner. Around 1400 Melani belonged to Lienhard Rutzenlacher. In 1413 the residence was destroyed, sold and rebuilt by Bavarian troops. For a short period (from 1450) the rich of coins was owned by the Duke Sigismondo, who then left him the mortgage of the Haller Fieger family around 1455; this also built the Neumelans Ansitz in Alto Adige and called it with the name of the oldest site. Between 1535 and 1660 the castle belonged to Zott di Perneg. In 1537 Melans obtained the lower jurisdiction over this region, this was only in 1830 subjected to the district court. In 1815 the castle came into the possession of Felice Adamo of Riccabona, since it was owned by the Riccabona Reichenfels family.
The building was destroyed by an earthquake in 1689 and rebuilt in 1700, important restorations took place in the nineteenth century and more recently in 1980.
