At the corner formed by the Ingering and Gaal streams, on a small hill, stands the Wasserberg castle, once surrounded by a large moat and marshes.
Schloss Wasserberg History
Schloss Wasserberg is the heart of the forestry company. Today it is the headquarters of the Wasserberg forest administration. It also houses apartments, private apartments and a holiday home for religious. The center of the courtyard is formed by a 12-ton rock from the area ("mountain of water"), crowned by a bird sculpture by P. Raphael Statt O.Cist.
In 1482 Bishop Matthias Scheit had the chapel built in the castle. She is the hl. Jodokus, a patron saint of French pilgrims. According to the spirituality of the Cistercian Order, the chapel received new patronage in 1913: the Assumption on August 15th.
In 2013, the castle courtyard was renovated. At the main entrance of the staircase in the east wing is the following chronogram, P. Walter Ludwig O.Cist. created, and that is the year 2013. Translated means: "In the mountains rich in water and in the fir forests of Styria, where the deer rejoice, Heiligenkreuz thanks God the creator".
