The Relais of Tenuta Santa Caterina, an integral part of the homonymous winery, an architectural complex dating back to the seventeenth century, completely renovated with respect for the environment and historicity, is located in the center of Monferrato, a territory recognized by UNESCO as a heritage of Humanity.
Tenuta Santa Caterina History
Censed as an Agricultural Estate as early as 1737, the property was brought back to life by Guido Carlo Alleva, starting in the 2000s, when he decided to return to the lands of his maternal origin and to resume the family tradition of viticulture. Tenuta Santa Caterina, after a restoration work carried out respecting the past. The Palace, the Porticos, the Italian Gardens, the Stables, the Historic Cellar with brick vaults and the Infernòt, dug into the tuff up to 17 meters deep, thus return to their former glory. Infernòt is the Piedmontese term used to indicate the underground cellars used for the conservation of wines: authentic jewels of underground architecture, now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The atmosphere is the warm one of an ancient dwelling, of composed and simple elegance, surrounded by nature, where the original spaces have been respected and organized to guarantee confidentiality and privacy and every detail is taken care of to express harmony and beauty.
A small lounge-library adjacent to the reception suggests the style of the "home" right from the start. To recreate the sense of a community linked by the same interests and the taste for beauty and goodness, the large central living room where the typical Baroque fireplace is the protagonist. The antique parquet floor has been recovered as well as the important vaulted ceiling decorated in plaster, a classic expression of the "Piedmontese baroque" used in the representative parts of the local farmhouses. Everything contributes to creating a hushed and relaxing atmosphere, which can also be felt in the subsequent and more intimate burgundy lounge.
To emphasize the importance of the external landscape and to make it live indoors, the breakfast room is all "dressed" in green, also with a large fireplace and large windows overlooking the vineyards and the garden terrace. In a suggestive tasting room, obtained from the old cellar, all the wines of the Tenuta Santa Caterina are exhibited, which can be purchased or tasted.
