The Certosa di Maggiano occupies an ancient monastery in the Tuscan countryside, just a few minutes from the famous Piazza del Campo di Siena.
Its history began in 1314 when it was built by the will of Cardinal Riccardo Petroni as a place for prayer and meditation; during the 16th century, however, it became involved in the bitter confrontation between Henry II's France and Charles V's Spain, which was partly destroyed. Damaged but intact in its charm it had a quiet life until 1782 when the Leopoldo II Grand Duke of Tuscany decided to remove the cells from the friars and sell them to private individuals. Various owners followed each other until in 1969 Anna Grossi Recordati, falling in love with the imposing but destroyed charm of the Certosa, decided to restore it to the ancient beauty with a restoration. Over the years he then moved from private residence to residence and finally to luxury hotels in 1978, becoming part of the famous Association of Relaix & Chateaux.
The 17 rooms, obtained from the ancient cells of the friars, are arranged on three floors: different by type, furniture, colors and views, all are covered by a common thread made of sobriety and elegance, as well as comfort and modern services. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, heating, satellite TV, telephone and safe.
There are several rooms of the Certosa di Maggiano where guests can spend pleasant moments, starting from the "Sala Imperatori", decorated with 18th century paintings depicting twelve Roman emperors, passing to the library to relax in the company of a good book lying in the living room reading room, arriving outside where, among olive groves and vineyards, there is a heated swimming pool, a tennis court and a fitness center.
The restaurant "Il Canto" takes its name from one of the farms of Certosa, which still produces olive oil and fresh products, offers dishes made with these local ingredients. The cuisine is based on the simplicity and genuineness of the raw materials and the wide spaces of the hotel allow you to have meals in different places depending on the time of day, such as historical cuisine, outdoors under the pergola or during the summer under the porch adjacent to the swimming pool.
