The Schlosshotel Seewirt was built in the late 19th century and is deeply rooted in the history of the Tannheimer Tal. Today the Schlosshotel Seewirt looks like a romantic gourmet hotel at 1,763 m asl. on the Turracher Höhe between Carinthia and Styria. As a guest, you immediately feel welcome at the Seewirt and experience extraordinary hospitality. At the Schlosshotel you are facing a breathtaking panorama of the Nockberge scenery. The strength of the Schlosshotel is its proximity to the Nockberge and the Gurktal Alps, to the numerous hiking trails and, at the moment, to two mountain bike trails directly from the hotel entrance.
Schlosshotel Seewirt History
For a long time the Seewirt was the only inn on the Turracherhöhe. It is the oldest building on the Turrach and derives from Prince Schwarzenberg's beekeeping. Georg Mayrbrugger from Rodenthe appears as the first tenant, around 1830. His son continued the management until 1849. In the same year a certain Johann Lasarus from Maria Lankowitz, illegitimate son of Baron of Gallern and the daughter of a farmer, took over in the meantime the inn on the malga has become free. Apparently Lasarus fled Maria Lankowith around 1835, going to work in the tunnel and then in the quarry in Turrach and becoming a master stonemason. Thanks to his diligence, Lasarus became a wealthy man and in 1875 he bought the Prießhube in Ebene Reichenau. Subsequently, it seems that Peter Lax, host and deputy of the Länder chamber, became the new tenant of the Seewirt, whose contract lasted five years.
Since Mr. Lax showed no particular interest in Seewirt, after two years his accountant maid Anna Madrutter, who was already directing its fortunes, took over the inn from Mr. Lax. Later he rented the Seewirt directly from Prince Schwarzenberg.
Anna Madrutter married the gamekeeper Johann Brandstätter in 1902, from whose union his son Hans was born in 1891. In 1914/15 the first skiers finally arrived on the Turrach. Hans Brandstätter married the Seewirt cook Stefanie Mara in 1921, with whom he continued the running of the inn. Until 1954 the Seewirt remained in the hands of the Brandstätter dynasty.
In 1954 Prince Schwarzenberg decided to sell the Seewirt, which was won by the builder of Murau Ferdinand Holweg. His wife Pauline transformed the inn into a small hotel which opened on 27-12-1957.
Ms. Pauline demonstrated a lot of skill and class in the direction of the hotel, expanding it in 1970 to include a living wing and a restaurant room, and adding a sauna and an indoor swimming pool in 1977.
In 1982 Pauline Holweg passed the helm to her daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Folker Müller-Elmau, who ran it until early 1996. For health reasons, the Müller-Elmau family was forced to sell the hotel. In September 1996 Richard and Elke Prodinger purchased the Hotel Seewirt, gave it a new lymph and inaugurated it on 13-12-1996 as a 4-star hotel.
The hotel is a 4-star hotel on the lake of the Turracher Höhe and follows the motto of "living well" with enthusiasm and perfection. First of all from the culinary point of view with the most refined creations. The Seewirt philipp restaurant has been awarded 14 Gault Millau points and is for gourmets. Excellent traditional Austrian dishes come out of the kitchen, naturally accompanied by a fine selection of wines from our sommelier. Fine palates just can't miss it, which means offering the guest extraordinary food, celebrated by chef Alois Tranninger, together with the owner's son and chef with a hat, Philipp Prondinger and the extraordinary kitchen team. In this regard, fresh regional products of the best quality are used.
