Palazzo Valmarana is located in Corso Fogazzaro, a few steps from the intersection with Corso Palladio, the main street of the historic center of Vicenza and is included in the 23 Palladian monuments of the city which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Palazzo Valmarana Braga History
The Palace stands on an area owned by the Valmarana family since 1483, which extends from Corso Fogazzaro to the Church of San Giacomo. Palazzo Valmarana Braga was commissioned in 1565 by Isabella Nogarole in memory of her late husband Giovanni Alvise Valmarana and was built by Andrea Palladio, a project later presented in "The Four Books of Architecture"
The façade of Palazzo Valmarana is one of the most extraordinary and singular Palladian realizations in that for the first time in a building a giant order on six spans embraces the vertical development of the building in its entirety.
The bombings of 18 March 1945 destroyed part of the Palace, demolishing the roof and a large part of the central hall. In 1960 Vittor Luigi Braga Rosa bought the ruined building from the Valmarana family and began extensive restoration work by reconstructing the parts demolished during the war and enriching the building with works of art from other destroyed buildings, such as the collection of paintings by 600 by Giulio Scarponi.
The interiors of the building offer spaces of striking beauty for the organization of receptions and banquets in every season of the year and for a high volume of guests. On the main floor there is a large living room, communicating with six rooms of different sizes for a total of 600 square meters. Large and bright ceilings, precious Murano chandeliers and Venetian floors give elegance and refinement to every room. Even the private courtyard is available to guests for the summer and has a beautiful covered atrium enriched by giant Ionic columns. The central position, in the historic center of the city in the pedestrian area, makes Palazzo Valmarana the ideal site for organizing conventions, exhibitions, conferences and important events.
